ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Huichol Art Project was founded by Blue Deer Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to actively support the Wixárika people (pronounced Wvee-ra-rika) by creating markets for their artwork at fair prices—with all proceeds going directly back to the artists.
The Wixárika live in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico as they have for thousands of generations, in communion with nature and each other. Never conquered by outsiders, their sacred traditions remain intact.

HOW IT WORKS
The Project purchases art directly from Wixárika artists in their homeland (San Andrés Cohamiata, Nayarit). Due to cartel activity, we are now limited to one annual trip to purchase art and deepen our relationship with the community and tradition. Even with these visits, it is very dangerous to travel to this area of the world.
The Elders and people are extraordinarily grateful for these purchases—they literally put food on their tables and enable families to remain in their homeland and maintain their traditional ways. Your purchases make a real difference.

WHY THIS MATTERS
The Wixárika have generously shared their fire offerings with Sacred Fire Firekeepers to help modern people nourish their hearts and relationship with themselves, each other, and the living world through connection with Grandfather Fire.
Their artwork is imbued with beauty and ancient knowledge—a thread connecting the wisdom of the past with seeds of the future. When you purchase their handmade art, you receive its beauty and spirit while directly supporting Wixárika families during critically difficult times.
This volunteer-run project operates in six countries on three continents. Aside from minimal administrative expenses, all proceeds go directly to the artists.
